The University of Chicago Arts and Humanities Division is pausing admissions to the several doctoral and master’s programs for one year while we undertake a comprehensive review of our graduate programs. Due to this review, we will only be admitting students in the following programs: Philosophy (PhD), Music Composition and Sound Practices (PhD), Master of Arts Program in the Humanities, and Master of Fine Arts in Visual Arts. This one-time decision applies only to the 2026-2027 academic year. Our division has long been a national and global leader in graduate education in the arts and humanities, and University leadership remains fully committed to supporting rigorous and impactful graduate education—in the arts and humanities and across the university. This pause will allow for a thoughtful and thorough review of the programs, led by our faculty and staff with the intention of strengthening the program to better serve future students, reflects the changing landscape of higher education and research careers, and ensures our ability to continue our world-class research, artistic practice, and teaching. |
