University of Chicago distinguishes itself from other top research institutions by the particularly strong emphasis placed on interdisciplinary research and collaboration. You will find this emphasis reflected in our arts and cultural organizations, research projects, journals, and the many multidiscipline centers connected to the Humanities. Since the mid-1980s, one of the forms this culture of intellectual confluence has taken is the sixty-some Graduate Workshops in Humanities and Social Sciences, sponsored by the University's Council on Advanced Studies. These workshops bring together faculty and graduate students from diverse fields at the University and the wider Chicago area to discuss their work on topics of common interest. We welcome your exploration of our Division and hope you enjoy discovering what it may have to offer you. If you decide to apply to one or more of our programs, go to Admissions to begin the application process.
