Inaugural Vivekananda Visiting Professors Announced

Sir Christopher Bayly of Cambridge University and David Shulman of Hebrew University have been appointed as the first recipients of the Indian Ministry of Culture Vivekananda Visiting Professorship.

Bayly, who focuses on post-eighteenth-century Indian and British Imperial History, joins the University for the Spring Quarter in 2014 and 2015. Shulman, a scholar of southern Indian history, religion, poetry, and language, will join the University for Spring Quarter 2016 and 2017. During their time on campus, Bayly and Shulman will engage actively with the University’s South Asian studies community by offering courses and delivering an annual public lecture.
