Division of the Humanities | Admissions and Financial Aid

Applications for admission to all graduate programs in the Division of Humanities are processed by the Office of Admissions in the Office of the Dean of Students. Questions about the application process should be directed to humanitiesadmissions@uchicago.edu or 773/702-1552.

Information about and answers to questions regarding specific programs can be found at the Web sites of the departments and committees. Please see the University's Time Schedules for current course offerings.

The 2010-2011 application will be available on September 1, 2009.

Please be aware that applicants from previous years will no longer be able to re-activate their earlier application but must instead submit a new online application and all new supplemental materials and pay the application fee. A partial exception to this practice applies to applicants who applied to the MAPH program for 2009-2010 and were admitted. These applicants should contact Joan Wellman, Associate Director of MAPH, about how to resubmit an application to the program.

For all Humanities graduate programs except the Master of Arts in Latin American/Caribbean Studies and the Master of Arts in Middle Eastern Studies, the deadline for receipt of completed applications for admission in 2010-2011 is DECEMBER 15, 2009. The deadline for the Latin American/Caribbean and Middle Eastern Studies programs is JANUARY 4, 2010. All admission and aid decisions are sent by U.S. mail during the first week in March. All domestically and most internationally mailed letters or packets should arrive before April 1. Please understand that we cannot relay decisions by phone or e-mail.

Please be aware that applications will be evaluated on the basis of materials received in our office at the time of the regular review period. Late applications or application materials (i.e., those received after the deadline) will be considered only as long as places are available in the relevant programs. Financial aid (other than loans) is not available for late applicants.
