LISA JARNOT
from Robert Duncan: The Ambassador from Venus
Spring 1999’s section, “On Robert Duncan,” paired Duncan’s introduction with an excerpt from Lisa Jarnot’s forthcoming biography Robert Duncan: The Ambassador from Venus. The chapters found in CR focus on Duncan’s mythic adoptive origins in the occultist and bohemian Bay Area of the early 1920s. Jarnot’s playfully subtle presentation of the hermetic and anecdotal reflects her dedication to Duncan’s life and creative vision, as well as her own ongoing fascination with lyric and myth. A regular contributor to Chicago Review, most recently in the Fall 2006 issue (as part of the tribute to Kenneth Rexroth), Jarnot teaches at Naropa and Brooklyn College. Her recent reading as part of the Poem Present series at the University of Chicago may be found here.
