Rossini turned once again to La riconoscenza when the Accademia Filarmonica of Treviso asked him to write a cantata for the ceremonies commemorating the recent death of the sculptor Antonio Canova. The composer responded by sending from Venice a "Cantatina pastorale", the score of which consisted of copies of two numbers from La riconoscenza: the trio for Argene, Melania, and Fileno and the duet for Argene and Melania, joined by a newly-composed recitative in Rossini's hand. The recitative is printed in Appendix I of the score, making possible the performance of this smaller but equally valid revision of La riconoscenza.
