IIOS: CIAO in Iowa
The Institute for Italian Opera Studies
A branch of CIAO focussing on Verdi has recently been established at The University of Iowa. Housed at the Obermann Center for Advanced Studies, the Institute for Italian Opera Studies is directed by Roberta Montemorra Marvin, who is currently serving as Associate General Editor for The Works of Giuseppe Verdi.
Roberta Montemorra Marvin is editor of I masnadieri, series 1, vol. 11 in The Works of Giuseppe Verdi (Chicago: University of Chicago Press; Milan: G. Ricordi, 2000 [full score], 2004 [vocal score]) and has published numerous articles on Verdi (click on her link above for complete bibliography). Currently Dr. Marvin is writing two books: Verdi and the Victorians, on the performance, dissemination, and reception of Verdi's operas in Victorian London, and Verdi the Student - Verdi the Teacher, based on a project that was awarded the Premio Giuseppe Verdi by the Istituto Nazionale di Studi Verdiani in 1991. Her work on the Verdi edition is supported by an Andrew W. Mellon Foundation Grant.
