From the Editors,

We are very pleased to present the third volume of Sources, the Chicago Undergraduate Journal of Jewish Studies. Sources developed out of a small weekly discussion group that focused on the classical texts of Judaism. The first volume was published in 1995 under the leadership of Joshua D. Levin and Scott Jason Goldberg.

Sources continues today as a showcase for thought and research in the area of Jewish Studies in the College at the University of Chicago. As a specifically undergraduate journal, Sources features a variety of works written from perspectives unique to the broadly interdisciplinary nature of college study. As editors, we selected pieces not only for scholarly merit, but also for insight, provocation, and general interest. We have arranged the articles in chronological order of subject matter. We are happy to include a range of topics, from the Second Temple Period to the present, and welcome even more diverse contributions in the future.

We thank all our contributors, Amiad Kushner for his advice in the formative stages, and especially Michael Fishbane, who maintains the continuity of the journal despite the transience of student editors.
