Talks and Seminars

Humanities Computing and ARTFL co-sponsor a series of informal technical presentations and discussions (called "Snorts") by members of the University community working on digital humanities projects. If you are interested in learning more about these events, please subscribe to the Snort listhost.

Humanities Computing Lecture Series

Every quarter Humanities Computing sponsors one or two visiting lectures by prominent practitioners in the field of Digital Humanities. In the past our focus has been on issues revolving around natural language processing, data-mining, and text analysis. Looking forward, we plan to invite speakers to discuss current developments and research in other media such as sound and video. Suggestions by University staff and faculty for specific topics or visitors for upcoming lectures are very welcome! Please contact the Division's director of technology with your ideas for future events.

Conferences

In 2006 the Division of the Humanities organized and hosted the first Chicago Digital Humanities and Computer Science Colloquium (DHCS), cosponsored by the Computation Institute at the University of Chicago and the Illinois Institute of Technology. The theme of the 2006 Colloquium was What To Do with a Million Books?. Over 100 people attended a very successful, two-day event and plans are now underway to make the individual presentations available on the DHCS website. Northwestern University is planning to host the 2007 DHCS.
