Communications and Events

If you are getting ready to plan an event, workshop or symposium, or you are interested in creating a departmental newsletter, promoting a lecture, or publicizing faculty accomplishments, event planning and communications staff are available to assist in every step of the process. Faculty with communication and/or event planning needs should contact the Humanities Division Director of Events, Carl Nash at 2-7423 or csnash@uchicago.edu. Faculty and staff are also encouraged to visit the Divisional Resources Wiki for additional event planning and communication resources.

The Humanities Division Director of Events is an expert in all aspects of event planning for conferences, lectures, receptions, memorial services, and other gatherings. The Director can offer a wide array of planning help, including

  • Assessing the budget, staffing and supply needs for an event;
  • Assisting with organization and task assignments;
  • Developing an event-specific plan for marketing and communication;
  • Hiring and training of student events assistants and other support staff for events, according to schedule availability.

Communications and events staff maintain this web site, assist in publicizing departmental lectures supported by the Division, provide advice and support in creating promotional materials (fliers, newsletters, postcards, event programs, etc.) for departments within the Division, and oversee the division's news and events page. Departmental faculty and administrators are encouraged to contact the Director of Events about departmental programming needs. Whether it is securing a location for a conference, promoting a lecture, or finding accommodations for visiting guests, these staff are prepared to provide you with planning and promotional resources.
