Humanities Administrative & Academic Computing's primary responsibilities are the services, servers and databases that support the administrative work-flow and faculty research of the Division.
Database Hosting:
Our databases help divisional staff process student admissions and records; faculty and staff procurements and reimbursements; staff benefits; faculty academic and financial reports, grants, endowments, and other specialized areas. We ensure that these electronically shared databases remain safe, secure, stable and with redundant backup mechanisms. We rigorously maintain the central database server systems and backups that provide the technological infrastructure for staff and faculty in the Division. In addition we are available to provide guidance and hosting space to departmental and committee staff for their databases.
Humanities File Share (HFS):
Humanities Administrative Computing provides universal and secure space to share and store work files for the Division. The Humanities File Share (HFS) consists of networked drives that all Divisional administrative staff and faculty can access by mounting them on their desktops. The primary usage is intended to:
Outreach and Training:
We always strive to help educate and train our staff and faculty in emerging and current technologies. In the past, we have held training and information sessions on Filemaker Pro, LateX, wikis and blogs etc. both under our "Getting to Know" lunchtime technology talks and outside. Please check for past and coming events. If you would like us to cover a particular technology topic, please send an email.
Admissions:
To help departmental staff manage the admission process, we designed and implemented a centralized system for processing applications. This system takes input from the central University application servers and allows departments to access the information for their candidates efficiently and and securely.
Divisional Web Sites:
Humanities Computing is committed to providing resources for departments to maintain and upgrade their Web sites. We have commissioned a number of standards-compliant, customizable templates for our departments. We work with individual departments to help choose and implement a site redesign that is rich in content, technically sophisticated, and visually appealing.
AdmiNet: The University of Chicago portal site, which compiles the rules, regulations, forms, and information for administrative services on campus.
TravelNET: The University of Chicago travel site for information on booking services.
University Procurement System: The University of Chicago procurement site for departments and staff.
Gargoyle Help: The University of Chicago student registration and information system for departments and staff.
