Hakan Özoglu

Hakan Özoglu grew up in Istanbul and worked as a journalist in several Turkish daily newspapers. After receiving his BA in Social Anthropology from Istanbul University, he came to the U.S. for the graduate study. He received his PhD in history from the Ohio State University (1997). Hakan Özoglu has been teaching at the University of Chicago since 1997. He teaches modern Turkish, and his research focuses on the Kurds in the Ottoman Empire and early Republican period. He also regularly teaches courses on Modern Middle East and on Islam for the Graham School at the University of Chicago.
