My primary area of research interest lies in the (Prague) structuralist analysis of grammatical categories in the Slavic languages (in particular Bulgarian) and in the languages of the Balkan Sprachbund.  I also work in the field of Georgian linguistics, again with a primary emphasis on grammatical categories and their interrelationships. A third area of interest is Yiddish linguistics. I am also interested in the application of linguistic principles to the teaching of foreign languages and am the author and co-author of two textbooks of Georgian. At the University I teach, in addition to courses in linguistics, Bulgarian, Georgian, and Yiddish.
