Shadi Bartsch: Personal
Shadi Bartsch was born in in London, England, and attended schools in Switzerland,
the Fiji Islands, and Indonesia before coming to the United States in 1983. She is a member
of the poorly recognized Swedish-Persian minority group. Her hobbies include rock climbing,
speaking Mandarin with all the wrong tones, and slipping the surly bonds of earth. She is a professional
connoisseur of illegal parking spots. One of these days, she would really like to get up to
Everest Base Camp. Or (before the glacier melts, natürlich) to the summit of Kilimanjaro.

Canine Dependents: Sam and Molly
Hobbies, except for the camel. Who spits on someone who's hugging you?!

In a beautiful bay off the coast of Lycia. The
temple-tombs carved into the rock face are spectacular, and the
boat-pancake service can't be beat.
But it's hard to photograph yourself paragliding.

Some photos from Suva. Unfortunately, Teddy was eaten by Sam last year.
I came home and only found his hands and feet, an uncanny repetition of Thyestes' infamous meal.

Marrakesh is beautiful--a rose colored town in
the middle of the desert. The last three photos are from Kasbah
Tamadot, an hour outside the city
in the Atlas Mountains. Easily the loveliest place I've ever
stayed at. A pet camel (this one doesn't spit) wanders the grounds, and
rose petals are
sprinkled in the pool daily. At night the wild dogs howl and the eerie noise echoes in the valleys between the moutains
