Ph.D. University of Oxford (Classics) - Greek and Roman art. Research interests include attitudes to the sacred image in antiquity; ancient theories of representation; the relationship between image and text; Roman wall-painting and funerary art. The author of Facing the Gods: Epiphany and Representation in Graeco-Roman Culture (forthcoming with Cambridge University Press) and articles on Pompeian wall-painting, Graeco-Roman seal-stones and Hellenistic epigrams.
