Quarterly Registration
In autumn, registration is held the week before the quarter begins. In winter, spring, and summer, registration is held during the eighth week of the prior quarter. Students should register Monday through Thursday, with Friday reserved for special cases. The student calendar lists registration deadlines for the full academic year.
Advising
Advising procedures vary by department. Check with your department coordinator for instructions. All students require department approval to register, regardless of whether they are enrolling in courses.
Course Information
The University of Chicago does not publish a graduate course catalog. Course offerings are published every quarter in the University's Time Schedules, which also archives past schedules. Web sites of the Departments and Committees may include detailed course descriptions to help you decide upon your curriculum.
Restrictions
Entering students who have not yet submitted a final transcript to the Dean of Students will be restricted from autumn quarter registration. Students will be notified of the restriction by e-mail.
All students, including those in Advanced (typically years 5-12) and Extended Residence (years 13+), are responsible for checking their cMore accounts for restrictions (Bursar, Library, Student Loan Administration, Real Estate Operations, Immunization, Office of International Affairs, etc.) before registration. A student cannot register until all restrictions are cleared.
Late Registration Fees
A $100 late registration fee is assessed to any masters or doctoral student who is required to register but does not do so by the end of the registration period. This includes MA, MFA, Scholastic (typically years 1-4), Advanced (typically years 5-12), and Extended Residence (years 13+) students, as well as students in Pro Forma status.
A $150 late registration fee is assessed for failing to register by Friday of week three of the quarter.
A $250 continuous registration penalty fee is assessed for students in Advanced (typically years 5-12) or Extended Residence (years 13+) who do not clear restrictions by the end of the fifth week of the quarter.
A $250 late registration fee late is assessed for late registration for a prior quarter.
Any student who fails to clear all restrictions and officially register by the end of that same quarter will be administratively withdrawn from the University.
