Language Study

Foreign Language and Area Studies and Foreign Language Enhancement Program fellowships are for students in their first four years who must study certain languages for their programs. The FLAS program provides funding for study on campus during the academic year and on campus or elsewhere during the summer. The FLEP program provides funding to study a language not available at the University at one of the eleven universities that belong to the Committee on Institutional Cooperation. The Office of Graduate Affairs details these and other fellowship programs.

Various federal, private foundation, and international programs offer financial support for language study, usually abroad. One example: Fulbright fellowships sponsored by the Institute for International Education support language acquisition along with other academic pursuits all over the world, including Western Europe and North, Central, and South America. Fulbright-IIE fellowships are managed on campus by the Fulbright Program Adviser.
