Internships

Newberry Library
A Newberry Library internship offers a challenging supplement to the educational experience of undergraduate and graduate students interested in history, the humanities, and library science. Internships may last from one month to one year and require an average of seven to twenty flexible hours per week. These opportunities are generally unpaid.

Nonprofit Organizations
The University Community Service Center maintains a list of employment opportunities and internships in nonprofit organizations (such as the Center for Research Libraries and the Hyde Park Art Center) and includes links to other nonprofit job networks. Look to  your department as a resource for internships and employment specific to your field of study.

Smart Museum
Students can gain direct experience in museum practices as interns and docents at the University's Smart Museum of Art. Internships are paid positions and require approximately ten to nineteen hours of work each week; interns are needed for curatorial, registrarial, education, public relations, and business offices. Docents serve as educators for museum programs for primary and secondary school children and lead discussions with family, community, and adult groups; docents receive an hourly wage, and the museum seeks students with demonstrable leadership skills and some experience working with children.
