Undergraduate Concentration Calendar

The following is a general calendar of important dates for undergradates concentrating in Cinema and Media Studies. See Undergraduate Program page for complete descriptions of requirements. For more specific information on dates, deadlines, or any other concerns, contact the Program Coordinator.

Undergraduate Meetings:

    There are two meetings every quarter (normally during the third and seventh week) for current and prospective CMS undergraduates. These meetings provide information about upcoming courses, as well as opportunites to meet with faculty and raise questions about the program.

Required Courses:

  1. Introduction to Film (CMST 10100): Students are encouraged to take this course early in their undergraduate career, ideally in their 1st or 2nd year. At the latest, this course must be completed by the end of their 3rd year.

  2. History of International Cinema sequence (CMST 28500 and CMST 28600): It is recommended that students complete this requirement by the end of their 3rd year.

  3. Senior Colloquium (CMST 29800): All Cinema and Media Studies majors must take this class during Autumn Quarter of their 4th year.

Other Requirements:

3RD YEAR

    Course Agreement Form: This form, outlining the program of study, must be approved by the Director of Undergraduate Studies by the end of 4th week of Autumn Quarter.
    Further Electives Form: This form must be completed and returned to the Cinema and Media Studies office, Gates-Blake 405, by the end of 4th week of Winter Quarter.
4TH YEAR
    BA Adviser Approval Form: This form must be completed and returned to the Cinema and Media Studies Office, Gates-Blake 405, during 4th week of Autumn Quarter.
BA Project Deadlines:
    Autumn Quarter:
      Bibliography and outline due to BA preceptor Friday of 6th week.
    Winter Quarter:
      Working drafts due to BA Adviser.
    Spring Quarter:
      First full draft of BA due to Adviser Friday of 1st week.

      Final draft of BA due Friday of 4th week. One copy must be submitted to BA Adviser, and one copy must be submitted to the Cinema and Media Studies office, Gates-Blake 405.

      BA presentations and a celebratory event will take place during 7th week.
