This is a list of recordings played before class in in Larry Zbikowski's undergraduate harmony course at the University of Chicago, Winter term 2003. Know that there's no particular rationale for the recordings that are played—oftentimes it's just music I'm thinking about before class, or something that goes with the day.

Week 1 (1/6—1/10)

Monday, 1/6: "Mini Skirt" by Juan García Esquivel, performed by the Kronos Quartet on Nuevo [Nonesuch 79649-2].

Wednesday, 1/8: Antonio Vivaldi, Concerto in D major (RV 95) “La Pastorella,” first movement, performed by Il Giardino Armonico, Concerti da Camera Vol. 2 [Teldec 9031-73268-2].

Friday, 1/10: "If I Were a Bell" by Frank Loesser, performed by the Miles Davis Quintet on Relaxin' with the Miles Davis Quintet [Prestige 7129].

Week 2 (1/13—1/17)

Monday, 1/13: "Mac Tough" by Pat Martino, performed by Martino (guitar), Joey DeFrancesco (killer Hammond B3) and Billy Hart (drums) on Live at Yoshi's [Blue Note 7243 4 99749 2 0].

Wednesday, 1/15: "Table's Clear" by Paul Lansky, on Homebrew [Bridge BCD 9035].

Friday, 1/17: "Wachet auf, ruft uns die Stimme" by J. S. Bach, performed by John Eliot Gardiner, the Monteverdi Choir, and the English Baroque Soloists from the eponymous cantata; on Bach: Cantatas, Wachet auf, ruft uns die Stimme BWV 140, etc. [Archiv 463 587-2].

Monday, 1/20: "Idle Chatter Junior," by Paul Lansky, on Ride [Bridge 9103].

Wednesday, 1/22: "Was Gott tut, das ist wohlgetan" by J. S. Bach, performed by John Eliot Gardiner, the Monteverdi Choir, and the English Baroque Soloists from the eponymous cantata; on Bach: Cantatas, Was Gott tut, das ist wohlgetan BWV 98, etc. [Archiv 463 586-2].

Friday, 1/24: "Danza ritual del fuego" by Manuel de Falla, performed by Paco de Lucia and others on Paco de Lucia spielt Manuel de Falla [Philips LP 6328 245].

Monday, 1/27: Rondo in D for piano and orchestra, K. 382, by W. A. Mozart, performed by Malcolm Bilson and the English Baroque Soloists, John Eliot Gardiner, conductor on Piano Concertos Nos. 5 & 8 [Archiv cassette 415 990-4].

Wednesday, 1/29: "Die Forelle" and "Fischerweise" by Franz Schubert, performed by Ian Bostridge and Julian Drake on Schubert Lieder [EMI 7243 5 56347 2 6].

Friday, 1/31: The overture from Mozart's Die Zauberflöte, performed by Luciana Serra with the Staatskapelle Dresden, Colin Davis conducting [Philips 422 543-2].
