DescriptionMedieval Jain literature produced in Sanskrit and Kannada is notable for the ways in which the stability of emotion across time stands in marked contrast to the mutability of gender and the body. This talk focuses on the trajectory of souls twinned across time to illustrate the endurance of emotion without bodies. The talk argues that, for these Jain authors, emotion is not contained by a stably embodied gender; instead, emotion engenders particular bodies.
